• Combating Hotel Staffing Shortages

According to a survey conducted by the American Hotel & Lodging Association in September 2022, nearly all hotels are experiencing staffing shortages, with 87% of survey respondents indicating they’re experiencing a staffing shortage and 36% severely so.'

“Staffing shortages” have been buzzwords in the hospitality industry for the past two years, and hoteliers and restaurants have had to get creative when it comes to keeping up with customer service. Digital marketing is the first solution that comes to mind to solve this problem, but we’ve seen some of our clients get creative to utilize websites and online media channels to promote career opportunities. Here are three examples our clients and Vizergy account managers have come up with:  

  • Streamline the front desk with Call Center — Vizergy’s newest product offering can relieve the front desk during the busiest times, allowing front desk staff to dedicate their time to giving face-to-face service. The call center is available 24/7, or for a dedicated set of hours when a property needs extra help. The call center employees are thoroughly trained on the property they answer calls for, making the service customized to each property. 
  • Social media ads — Some clients chose to put marketing budgets into online media campaigns to promote hiring opportunities. One resort in Stowe, Vermont, ran a hiring campaign for six months and got 1,550 clicks with an average cost per click of $0.77. 
  • Modal popup — Enabling a modal popup on a site is typically used to promote special offers but can also let website visitors know of career openings. Instead of having website visitors scroll down to the footer of the website to find a careers page, this popup can capture potential employee’s attention on the home page of the website.

The year 2022 will always be a year we remember by the terms “pent-up travel demand” and “revenge buying.” While this has been promising because of the travel industry revenue increasing, many hotels have had severe issues keeping up with the influx of guests.
