Attracting Hospitality Business Students to 'Commercial' Careers: Insights From the 2023 Fall HSMAI Faculty Forums - By Rob Kwortnik

In the fall of 2023 the HSMAI Foundation engaged faculty from colleges and universities in the Americas, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region to address how the industry could better support faculty efforts to educate and motivate students to pursue careers in commercial fields. Faculty expressed the need for ongoing information about current industry knowledge and practice, including case studies, digital assets, and access to industry professionals as guest speakers.

CoStar Groups SHARE Center Crowns Winners of Five Student Market Study Competitions

Teams of Three to Six Students, with the Assistance of Their Faculty Advisor, Selected a Market and Were Provided with a Standard Set of Reports and Data. Teams then Analyzed the Data, Drew on Outside Resources and Worked Together to Create a Market Study Presentation, Which Was then Presented to a Panel of Senior-level Industry Judges.

We gathered each group to discuss emerging trends, prevailing challenges, and how HSMAI and the HSMAI Foundation can partner to shape the future of hospitality education. These discussions highlighted a shift towards integrating technological advancements and strategic thinking into the curriculum.

Las Vegas Sands and Marina Bay Sands Launch $1 Million Hospitality Scholarship Program in Singapore

the tremendous tourism growth projected over the coming years. The Sands Hospitality Scholarship Program will benefit more than 100 Singaporean students pursuing hospitality or tourism-related courses of study at six Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) including Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic and the Singapore Institute of Technology in Singapore.
