Marriott International, Inc. (Nasdaq: MAR) and KKR today announced the launch of each company's foray into the midscale hospitality space in Japan, which follows KKR's completion of the acquisition of Unizo Hotel Company, Limited and a portfolio of 14 hotels in Japan from Unizo Holdings.
The conversion deal entails the rebranding of seven hotels to Marriott Hotels and Courtyard by Marriott across five of Japan's most popular travel destinations
Part of the urban development next to Hiroshima Station, the 301-room new-build hotel will incorporate a design that will allow visitors to feel the history of the area, including a space that embraces Saigoku Kaido, the famous Edo Period highway (1603-1868) on which the hotel stands.

The announcement follows the signing of a letter of intent (LOI) between IHG and Axe Management Partners which would see Garner make its Japan debut in the second half of 2024 with three conversion hotels in Osaka, adding more than 500 rooms to IHG?s growing Japan estate.
