Additionally, the number planning to travel only internationally has more than doubled, from 20% last year to 42% this year.
SiteMinder’s World Hotel Index shows that hotel bookings in Spain are currently at 116.3% of 2019 volumes - 10.8% higher than the global average.
The current number of reservations being made to Portuguese hotels is 21% above 2019’s record-breaking volumes, and Portugal leads neighbouring Spain, France and Italy for comparative booking momentum.
The figures, which suggest that Chinese travellers could be on track to constitute a projected one-fifth of all international travellers to Thailand by year’s end, were unveiled at the ‘Amazing Thailand Sailing with Meituan’ event in Bangkok.
New data from SiteMinder suggests Spain’s hotel sector could be facing a historic summer of bookings. Hotel booking volumes in Spain are currently 17 percent higher than at the beginning of summer 2019, when the country experienced its biggest year of tourism to date.
