After years of working and traveling around the world, Estreya Gosalbez has returned to her home country to lead the team that will reintroduce a beloved landmark hotel as Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor next year.
“Estreya is such a perfect fit for this exciting and highly anticipated opening,” notes Adrian Messerli, who most recently led the team at the company’s first Spanish property in Madrid, and is now Four Seasons President, Hotel Operations – Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Her energy and enthusiasm are infectious and will set just the right tone as we create the next chapter in both this celebrated hotel’s continuing story, and our company’s growth in the region.”
Located on an idyllic green peninsula on the island’s northern tip, Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor will welcome sunseekers, nature lovers and cultural explorers, connecting guests with myriad recreational opportunities on land and the Mediterranean Sea’s turquoise waters, not to mention its charming historic towns and local culinary delights.
“As we renovate and revitalize the iconic Hotel Formentor, we are paying homage to its rich history while creating a Four Seasons experience that will introduce our guests to the unique local culture of these islands, with renewed appreciation for the natural beauty of the land and the sea,” says Gosalbez, who is currently assembling a local and international team that will bring the experience to life. “We are particularly excited and proud to share that Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor will be the only property in the Balearic Islands with LEED Gold Certification, an international measure of exemplary leadership in sustainable building practices.”
Working with architect Estudio Lamela and interior designers Gilles & Boissier, Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor has been designed to respect and protect its natural surroundings through various environmental initiatives, such as the restoration of native vegetation and planting, reduced water consumption, rainwater harvesting and the use of grey water for landscape irrigation, heat recovery systems, solar power through use of solar panels, and food waste management systems. Other initiatives include the use of electric vehicles and low energy consumption through a very considered design approach.
Estreya Gosalbez was born in Madrid and educated in Canada, where she began her Four Seasons career on the concierge team in Whistler, British Columbia in 2005. Taking on increasing responsibilities with assignments in England, Argentina and the United States, she eventually returned to the place where it all began as General Manager of Four Seasons Resort and Residences Whistler before making the move to Mallorca. As a child of an Iberia Airlines pilot, Gosalbez spent a great deal of time in hotels in her youth, fascinated by every aspect of the operation. Now settled on the shores of the Mediterranean with her Argentine husband and two young daughters, the multilingual hotelier is busier than ever, noting with a laugh, “In what other industry can a leader be involved in so many different things? I know more about plumbing and light fixtures than I ever dreamed!”
